Tutoring / Study Skills

Tutoring is available to fill gaps in basic skills in all academic areas.


  • To assist children with conversational repair strategies that request a speaker to modify or clarify a message (i.e., specifically, the ability to ask for clarification).  A pragmatic language skill.
  • Translate proven research into effective educational practice to ensure students can read and use complex informational texts independently so that adult outcomes will be improved.
  • To demonstrate retrieval practices that help activate prior knowledge and give students practice at using previously learned material effectively.  Thus, speeding up the cognitive transfer from long-term memory to working memory which embeds the learning more deeply.
  • To utilize research which demonstrates that concreteness, imagery, and verbal associative processes play major roles in educational domains.
  • Programs can be developed or modified to meet the needs of each student
  • Available during and after school hours for students and school agencies
  • Knowledge of specialized strategies to accommodate diverse learners

      for Oral Language, Comprehension and Expression – ideal for preschool child or child with Autism

      for Language Comprehension and Thinking (dual coding – the imagery-language connection that underlies comprehension and thinking
    3. Spelling Instruction – Fernold Method
      Systematic, multi-sensory approach incorporates use of visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile (VAKT) modalities simultaneously
    4. Mathematics
      Math strategies depend on child’s cognitive processes: verbal retention, language levels, executive functioning, visual-spatial and working memory skills
